Healing Trade War, China Stops Shipping Planes From Boeing
JAKARTA - In the midst of an escalation of the trade war with the United States (US), China asked national airlines to suspend the delivery of Boeing jets.
According to a Bloomberg report, this strategic step was taken by the Chinese government in response to US President Donald Trump's policy of increasing the fare by 145% of the Bamboo Curtain country's goods.
As a result of China's policy, Boeing's shares fell 0.5% in central trading, on Thursday 17 April.
As a result of the US and Chinese trade wars, the global aerospace industry had to re-injure billions of dollars worth of contracts after US supplier Howmet Aerospace sparked debate over who had to bear the tariff fees.
Many people are confused over the tariff changes previously announced by Trump on Wednesday (2/4/2025), including several airline CEOs who ultimately chose to postpone aircraft shipments rather than paying high import duties.
Launching from Reuters, previously the three largest airlines in China, namely Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines have planned deliveries of 45, 53 and 81 Boeing aircraft, respectively, between 2025-2027.
In addition to suspending aircraft shipments from Boeing, the Chinese government also requested that national airlines stop purchasing aircraft equipment and parts from US companies.
However, until now, this has not been confirmed.
According to analysts, the temporary suspension of aircraft shipments to China due to the escalation of the trade war with the US will not have a major impact on Boeing.
The reason is, the company can transfer the planes to other airlines.

On the other hand, China is predicted to experience major difficulties due to the government's ban on buying aircraft parts, including C919 from US companies.
"If China stops buying aircraft components from the US, the C919 program will be terminated or off," said Bank of America analyst Ron Epstein.
Amid the escalation of the trade war with the US, the Chinese government is known to be considering ways to provide assistance to national airlines renting Boeing jets, which are faced with higher costs.
