Meta Now Bans Live Features And Nudity Image Delivery On Instagram Youth Accounts

JAKARTA Meta, the company that oversees Instagram and Facebook, held a second edition of the Digital Smart program on Wednesday, April 16. In this event, Meta launched the latest feature on Instagram Youth Accounts.

This launch is carried out to strengthen protection for users who are still teenagers and address their parents' concerns. In addition, Meta has also launched additional security features as part of the company's commitment to teen security.

"Over the years, we have invested and designed experiences that suit teens, including special features such as Youth Accounts," said Vice President and Global Head of Safety Meta, Antigone Davis, during the presentation.

The latest features launched are restrictions on Instagram Live and unwanted images on Direct Messenger (DM). Davis explained that accounts with the category of teenagers under the age of 16 will not be able to live.

However, there is a bit of relief against this feature. Users can still do Instagram Live if their parents give permission. Meanwhile, the Meta security feature will detect nudity images sent in DM automoatistically.

Just like Live support, users can only see nudity images in DM if they get parental permission. The ability to blur nudity images will automatically be available in the next few months.

"We are also rolling out new device-based security tools (on-device protection) that can detect and prevent the spread of infringing content before it reaches teens. This feature is activated automatically for all users under 18 years of age," Davis said.

Expansion Of Youth Accounts To Other Platforms

Davis also shared important information on the Smart Digital 2025 show. Currently, Youth Accounts are only available on Instagram, but Meta plans to expand its features to other platforms such as Facebook and Messenger.

This expansion is carried out so that Meta, as well as parents, can better monitor teenage users. The plan is that Youth Accounts will be extended to Facebook and Messenger starting this year in Indonesia, but the exact date has not been disclosed.

Like Instagram Youth Accounts, Youth Accounts on Facebook and Messenger will get a number of auto protection features. Here are some features that are certain to be available on Meta's other social media platforms.
