BAC 2025: Jonathan Fails To Defend His Title, Men's Singles Run Out

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie certainly failed to hold the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) title after losing in the quarter-finals this year's edition.

The second seed lifted his suitcase from the tournament after losing two straight games 13-21 and 13-21 against China's host representative, Lu Guang Zu, on Friday, April 11, 2025, afternoon WIB.

"Several times from the beginning there were many games that were not clear from me. Many made mistakes themselves. Learning again," said Jonathan after the match.

The defeat of the defending champion also ensured that the Indonesian men's singles sector no longer had representatives in the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships.

This is Jonathan's third defeat against Lu from a total of five of their clashes. Jonathan's two victories over Lu took place at the 2024 China Masters and the 2019 Australian Open.

"Lu Guang Zu has quite different appearances today, his foot movements are faster and his punches are quite difficult," said Jonathan.

Jonathan is the second representative of Indonesia to be eliminated in the quarter-finals. One other representative who had already returned was Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

The one semifinal ticket that has been secured by Indonesia is obtained through the mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.

The couple continued their journey in this tournament after defeating third seed from Malaysia, Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie.
