A Movement For Funds To Buy Submarines Appears, Here Are Some Submarine Prices

JAKARTA - Recently, the public has been busy talking about a joint effort to buy a submarine to replace the KRI Nanggala-402 which sank in Bali.

Then, how much does a submarine cost? We tried to summarize some submarine prices

1. Seawolf-class

One of the submarine classes that is the topic of conversation is the seawolf class. Launching from Military Today, this nuclear-powered submarine is capable of carrying 116 crew.

The Seawolf was a product of the Cold War, created to maintain the US acoustic advantage over Soviet submarines.

The Seawolf-class submarines are arguably the quietest in the world. It is quiet even when moving at high speeds, up to 20 knots.

Seawolf can roam up to 610 meters deep. Seawolf has no external weapons. However, the submarine is armed with Raytheon's land attack and anti-ship versions of the Tomahawk missiles. The Tomahawk has a range of 1,700 km.

Launching USNI, a unit of the Seawolf Class Submarine costs up to $ 5.5 billion or IDR 79.6 trillion.

2. Soryu class

The Soryu Class submarines are diesel-electric powered by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation.

The ship was launched in December 2007 and commissioned in March 2009. The Soryu class carries a hydrodynamic design. The sub's hull is made of steel and coated with an anechoic coating to reduce the reflection of acoustic waves.

The ship has an overall length of 84 m, a width of 9.1 m, and a depth of 10.3 m. The submarine is capable of carrying a crew of 65 and can cruise at a speed of 20 knots at depth.

Naval Technology noted that the Soryu is equipped with six HU-606 533mm torpedo tubes for the Type 89 torpedo and the UGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship. The Harpoon has a range of more than 124 km and a speed of 864 km/h.

Launching The Diplomat, a new Soryu Class submarine unit that uses lithium-ion batteries is estimated to cost $ 496 million or IDR 7.1 trillion.

3. Chang Bogo Class

The Chang Bogo class submarines are designed to perform low-noise operations. The submarine is equipped with an automatic system, to reduce the workload of the crew. This submarine can carry 33 crew members.

The submarine was originally developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) before being developed by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). Indonesia is known to have several submarines of this class.

The Chang Bogo class submarine has a length of 56 meters, a beam of 6.2 m, and a draft of 5.5 m. The displacement of the submerged ship was 1,285 tons. The Chang Bogo Class submarine can carry 33 crew members, as quoted by Naval Technology.

The Chang Bogo class is equipped with a modern combat management system integrating a multipurpose console for the sonar, navigation system, and weapon systems. The submarine carries a total of 14 SUT Mod 2 torpedoes. Each torpedo can carry a 260 kg warhead for a maximum range of 28km.

In December 2011, DSME executed a contract of $ 1.1 billion or IDR 15.9 trillion with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense for the delivery of three upgraded Chang Bogo Class submarines to the Indonesian Navy.

Two submarines will be built in South Korea, in collaboration with PT PAL Indonesia, while the third ship will be installed at the PT Pal shipyard in Surabaya.
