Finishing Second Position During Sprint Race, Alex Marquez Believes In Winning The 2025 American MotoGP Podium
Jakarta - Alex Marquez is increasingly confident to reach the podium in the main MotoGP American 2025 race after finishing second again in the Sprint Race at the Circuit of The Americas (CoTA), Sunday morning WIB.
I am very happy with the results of the Sprint Race, although I hope for tougher competition from other racers behind Marc Marquez. We have a good speed and lead 6-7 seconds from the second group," said Alex Marquez in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Sunday, March 30.
Full support from Federal Oil and comfort in driving the Ducati Desmosedici GP24 are the main factors of Alex's impressive performance.
He started the Sprint Race from third after recording a time of 2 minutes 1.448 seconds in the qualifying session, only 0.360 seconds adrift of his older brother, Marc Marquez, who won pole position with a time of 2 minutes 1.088 seconds.
The #73 racer admitted that he learned a lot from Marc who is known to be strong on the CoTA track.
I managed to keep my distance from Pecco (Francesco Bagnaia) throughout the race. It was a fun race and taught me a lot of lessons. We will try to repeat this performance, even though the track conditions have changed a lot in the last two days," he said.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Fermin Aldegeer, is also trying to be competitive in CoTA.
The #54 racer tried to take advantage of Marc Marquez's slipstream in the qualifying session, but a small mistake made him only able to finish in 12th place with a time of 2 minutes 2.419 seconds.
"I'm trying to maximize my chances in qualifying, but a small mistake cost me time. Even so, this is still my best qualification result so far," said Aldeguer.
During the Sprint Race, Aldeguer actually showed great potential with a good start and speed to get points.
However, the incident with Luca Marini damaged the front and left wing of his motorbike, so he missed the opportunity to compete in the front row.
"The collision with Marini changed the course of the race for me. Even so, I am still happy because we show positive progress. Tomorrow, we will try to start the same way and avoid mistakes," he added.
In the 2025 MotoGP standings, Alex Marquez is still in second place with 67 points, while Fermin Aldeguer is ranked 18th with a collection of three points.
