Jokowi And PSI Need Each Other, Can Collaborate

JAKARTA - Director of Indonesian Political Houses, Fernando Emas said that the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, needed a political vehicle to maintain his existence after he no longer served as head of state.

Therefore, despite the discourse of forming an open political party, one of the reasonable options is to join a political party that has so far played a role in the dynamics of national politics.

Joko Widodo needs a forum to be able to maintain his existence in Indonesian politics. So it is necessary to join one of the political parties that has always provided color in Indonesian politics," said Fernando in his statement, Friday, March 28, 2025.

According to him, in addition to the eight parties that have seats in the DPR RI, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) is also still able to compete in coloring national politics. Thus, Jokowi's opportunity to join PSI, which is now led by his youngest child, Kaesang Pangarep, is getting wider.

"So it is very possible for Joko Widodo to join the party currently led by his youngest child. Moreover, Jokowi's idea of a super open party was clearly realized by Kaesang at PSI," he added.

In addition, if Jokowi takes a strategic role in PSI, either as a coach or in other positions, this will have a significant impact on the party. According to Fernando, the collaboration between Kaesang as PSI General Chair and Jokowi in a strategic position will increase PSI's competitiveness and electability in facing the 2029 General Election.

"The collaboration between Kaesang as General Chair and Jokowi as a coach or other positions will be able to increase the votes of PSI 2029 to come. If this happens, then this step will be one of the interesting political strategies to be seen in Indonesia's future political journey," he said.
