KLH Will Ask For Responsibility Of Environmentally Polluting Packaging Producers
JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said he would hold producers accountable for plastic packaging that leaks into the environment and causes pollution.
Hanif said that he would take a principle approach from Polluter Pays or producers who do not take steps to reduce waste must contribute to efforts to restore their environment.
"We will certainly try to approach the plenciple pole pays. So anyone who pollutes the environment, including the brands, must be responsible. For his responsibility, how there will be a kind of demand that can be resolved outside the court as regulated in Law Number 32 of 2009, or through the court," explained Hanif when reviewing the management of waste Rest Area KM 57 in Karawang Regency, West Java, Antara, Wednesday, March 26.
"So I'm not playing games, I'm going to be serious about reducing it. Because if it can be implemented it will reduce our garbage burden," he said.
This step was taken after a visit to Bali, he found a lot of garbage on the coast from a number of large producers and still using disposable plastic packaging, including packaging and cardboard-based packaging.
The government has previously issued Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.75 of 2019 concerning Roadmap for Waste Reduction by Producers as part of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) or the responsibility of expanded producers, targeting manufacturers of manufacturing, food and beverage and retail sectors.
