Get To Know The Singapore-owned MV Swift Rescue And KRI Rigel TNI Who Found KRI Nanggala-402

JAKARTA - KRI Nanggala-402 has been found. The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, explained that the condition of the KRI Nanggala-402 which sank in the waters north of Bali Island at a depth of 838 meters below sea level was split into three parts. Nanggala was discovered through the synergy of search vessels, including Singapore's MV Swift Rescue and TNI's KRI Rigel.

MV Swift Rescue arrived in waters north of Bali on April 25. This ship managed to get camera images and found the position of KRI Nanggala-402 at a depth of 838 meters. MV Swift Rescue is equipped with advanced tools.

Launching the Naval Technology page, the MV Swift Rescue is a Submarine Support and Rescue Vessel (SSRV) operated by the Republic of Singapore Navy. The submarine is manufactured by ST Marine, a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering).

MV Swift Rescue is capable of carrying out rescue operations in Sea State 5. MV Swift Rescue is equipped with Submarine Escape and Rescue (SMER) capabilities, with rescue systems including Submarine Rescue Vehicle (SRV) and Submarine Support and Rescue Vessel (SSRV). Everything is integrated with each other.

MV Swift Rescue operates rescue systems, such as Deep Search and Rescue Six (DSAR 6) and Transfer Under Pressure. In addition, the ship is also capable of operating the intervention system, the Super Spartan ROV.

The MV Swift Rescue ship is capable of reaching a top speed of 12.5 knots with a maximum range of 3,000 nautical miles. For the ship's physics, the MV Swift Rescue has a length of 85 meters, a width of 18.3 meters, and a draft of 4.3 meters. The MV Swift Rescue gross tonnage was 4,290 t.

KRI Rigel

KRI Rigel is a ship that has the specific ability to take three-dimensional images under the sea. KRI Rigel can be used to capture various images around the SAR search location or full covered.

To perform full covered depth detection, KRI Rigel will use Multibeam Echosounder EM2040 and Side Scan Sonar. KRI Rigel is a ship used by the Indonesian Navy to provide hydro-oceanographic data or marine maps for navigation navigation.

KRI Rigel is said to be the most advanced underwater survey vessel in Asia for the Type of Assisted Hydro-Oceanography (BHO). According to records, KRI Rigel was brought in in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) with OCEA France.

Apart from being a survey vessel, the KRI Rigel 933 can also be used for military operations. KRI Rigel has submachine weapons caliber 20 millimeters and caliber 12.7 millimeters.

In addition, KRI Rigel is also qualified in SAR activities, as today it was sent to search for Sriwijaya Air SJ 182. Specifically, KRI Rigel is a Multi Purpose Research Vessel (MPRV) type ship.

Regarding underwater imaging, KRI Rigel is equipped with Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) equipment. This equipment serves for underwater imaging activities up to a depth of one thousand meters. With this technology, KRI Rigel can also periodically send data back to the main ship, in this case the BHO ship.

KRI Rigel is also equipped with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), Laser Scaner - to take pictures of the land, Side Scan Sonar, Automatic Weather Station, as well as a deep sea and singlebeam Multibeam Echosounder, to Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) equipment, and Gravity Cores.

Physically, KRI Rigel is made of aluminum and weighs 560 tons. KRI Rigel has a length of 60.1 meters and a width of 11.5 meters.

Discovery of KRI Nanggala-402

The discovery of KRI Nanggala-402 began when KRI Rigel-933 searched the northern waters of Bali using a sonar multibeam echo sounder (MBES) detection device at 01.00 WITA, Sunday, April 25.

"On this day, Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 01.00 WITA, KRI Rigel, which was carrying out a multibeam echosounder search, carried out significant underwater contact around the datum position or (position) the sinking of KRI Nanggala at a depth of 838 meters," he said. Margono, during a press conference.

In this search, the underwater detection tool (ROV) operated by KRI Rigel-933 was only able to detect up to a maximum depth of 800 meters. Therefore, the detection results were submitted and continued by the Singapore-owned ship, MV Swift Rescue.

"Then, the contact was identified at 07.37 WITA this morning. MV Swift Rescue sent the ROV to follow up on the underwater contact that was given by KRI Rigel," he said.

"At 09.04 WITA, the Singapore ROV got visual contact at the position of 07 degrees 48 minutes 56 seconds south latitude, 114 degrees 51 minutes 20 seconds east longitude, that is to be precise from datum one where the sinking of KRI Nanggala was 1,500 yards to the south at a depth of 838 meters. , "said Margono, explaining the position of the process before the parts of the ship were found by the search team.

KRI Nanggala-402 had lost contact on Wednesday morning 21 April and was set to drown on Saturday 24 April.
