Prediction Of Eid Holidays In Malang, Vehicle Mobility Is Estimated To Decrease

JAKARTA - The Malang City Transportation Service (Dishub) predicts a decrease in vehicle flow during the homecoming period and the Lebaran 2025 holiday compared to the previous year. This is in line with the results of a survey from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) which shows the potential for a decline in vehicle movement nationally.

The head of the Malang City Transportation Agency, Widjaja Saleh Putra, revealed that based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, the number of vehicle movements in 2024 will reach 190 million, while in 2025 it is estimated to decrease to 146 million. This trend is also predicted to have an impact on traffic in Malang City.

"If you look at the survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, there is a possibility that vehicle mobilization in Malang City will also decrease," said Widjaja.

During the Lebaran 2024 homecoming period, there were 563,088 vehicles in and out of Malang City. Of these, 287,435 vehicles were recorded as entering, while 275,653 vehicles left. Meanwhile, for this year, the Transportation Agency estimates that the number of vehicles entering will decrease to 281,399 units, and vehicles leaving to 269,865 units.

One of the factors that contribute to the decline in mobility is the policy of limiting large-tonage vehicle operations with a three-axis or more. This policy applies from March 24 to April 8, 2025, except for vehicles that transport basic needs, fuel, or animal feed according to the provisions of the Joint Decree (SKB).

In addition, the implementation of work from anywhere (WFA) policies for state civil servants (ASN) on March 24-27, 2025 is also another factor that has the potential to reduce vehicle density. Widjaja explained that many ASNs are likely to take advantage of this opportunity to go home early, so that the peak of homecoming can be spread more.

"ASN may have started traveling before the peak of the homecoming flow due to the WFA policy," he added.

The Malang City Transportation Agency has also identified several congestion-prone points that usually experience a surge in vehicle volume during the holiday season. One of the routes that has the potential to experience congestion is Jalan Ahmad Yani, which is the main access from the Singosari Toll Exit to Malang Regency and Batu City.

In addition, Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, which connects Malang City with Batu City, is predicted to experience a traffic spike. The same thing also has the potential to happen at the Madyopuro Exit Toll Road, which is the main route to Jonge, Ki Ageng Gribik, and Major General Sungkono, which leads to Malang Regency.

To anticipate the surge in vehicles, the Malang City Transportation Agency will coordinate with various parties to ensure smooth traffic flow during the homecoming season and the 2025 Eid holiday.
