Google Acquires Wiz, Researchers Are Worried About Cloud Security Neutrality

JAKARTA - The acquisition of Wiz by Google's parent company with a value of around US$32 billion (Rp525.6 trillion), has attracted the attention of many parties, including Wiz customers who use its cloud security solutions.

According to Tenable Research, the research division of the company Tenable Inc., this acquisition marks the end of Wiz's independence and neutrality which has been the main attraction for its customers.

"This marks the end of Wiz independence and neutrality its customers expect when using one of the main cloud service provider platforms," said Shai Morag, Head of Products at cloud exposure management company Tenable in a statement received by VOI quoted Friday, March 21.

According to Morag, when security vendors are owned by cloud providers, the limits can quickly run away, and product decisions can start prioritizing one platform at the expense of another.

"Netrality becomes almost impossible and the risk of a competitive conflict becomes enormous," continued Morag.

This concern arises because Wiz is now under Google, because Google has its own cloud service, so it's possible that Wiz is more directed to optimize Google Cloud security.

"Independent and cloud-agnostic security providers only need to focus on protecting their customers' cloud and hybrid environments, regardless of the platform they use," he explained.

Morag also reminded Wiz customers to continue to monitor this development closely. This agreement is indeed a fundamental change in the cloud security market, and Wiz customers must monitor carefully every change it causes," concluded Morag.
