Thomas Tuchel Warns British Players To Talk More On The Field

JAKARTA - Thomas Tuchel's new manager brought many changes to the England squad. Tuchel, one of them, asked players to talk more while on the field.

Tuchel made his debut when England faced an opponent who was not tough, Albania, in the European zone 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The first match of Group K, England hosted their opponents at Wembley Stadium, Friday, March 21, 2025 in the morning WIB.

Tuchel, who replaced Gareth Southgate after bringing England to the Euro 2024 final, was actually not difficult.

In Group K, England only gets the most reckoned with opponent, Serbia. Furthermore, The Three Lions faced Andorra and Latvia and Albania who became Harry Kane et al's first opponent.

Although it is predicted that it can go through the group stage, Tuchel does not underestimate every opponent. The former Bayern Munich coach highlighted England's minimal communication in the match. Tuchel stressed the importance of communication between players like the Euro 2024 final against Spain.

In match analysis, English player communication decreased in the second half. This, according to Tuchel, resulted in England's goal conceded twice.

Although England could equalize through Cole Palmer after trailing 1-0, Spain finally won 2-1.

The English player interaction decreased considerably, from 60 to 35, in the second half. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford acknowledged Spain looked more dominant as English player communication declined.

"That's why Spain dominated so much and we failed to catch up," Pickford said in response to Tuchel's statement.

The same thing was said by forward Morgan Rogers. According to the Aston Villa striker, communication is an important aspect because it keeps players united, especially when the team is in a position behind.

"Communication is an important aspect. When the momentum in the match changes, we have to stay together even though it may not go perfectly. What is clear is that we have to stay together and talk to each other. We just need to talk and stay together and have made a difference while you play," Rogers said.

Rogers said that Tuchel had a different aura. He was very confident when he revealed the team's draft in front of the players. Tuchel is optimistic about bringing England to become champions in the 2026 World Cup.

"That's his only goal. Obviously and transparently what he wants us to make improvements. He shows commitment and how he hopes we become a family. He really wants to be close to the players," he said.

England played two home games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After facing Albania, they hosted Latvia at Wembley, Tuesday, March 25, 2025 in the morning WIB.

In those two matches, Tuchel recalled Marcus Rashford, Villa loan player from Manchester United, and Jordan Henderson. Both are not in the England squad at Euro 2024.
