Caused By Rotten Smell, RDF Plant Rorotan Temporarily Stopped

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to temporarily suspend the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) trial of Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, admitted that his party would temporarily suspend the commissioning process to make improvements.

The operational suspension of waste processing facilities into alternative fuel is carried out after the unpleasant odor pollution felt by local residents.

"We will temporarily stop it. The contractors will submit within one week they will do the calculations first. We will wait one week for the delay," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency (LH) Asep Kuswanto to reporters, Thursday, March 20.

The DKI Department of Environment and Forestry will also empty the remaining waste of around 800 tons. This garbage has been piling up since one month ago. As a result of being buried for always a long time, it finally gave rise to an increasingly stronger unpleasant odor.

"At that time, residents protested because the equipment used was not perfect either. And finally until now the garbage is still piling up in the bunker," explained Asep.

Regarding truck mobilization, DLH DKI Jakarta ensures that garbage transport compactor trucks have been washed before leaving RDF Plant Rorotan, cleaning roads in the RDF Plant area and BKT Inspection roads on a regular basis with a sweeper road to minimize odors from dripping lindi water.

"In order to maintain air quality, we have installed an Air Quality Monitoring Station (SPKU) within the RDF Plant area and at the Jakarta Garden City (JGC) complex to monitor the quality of the ambient air in real time and transparent," explained Asep.

Thursday, March 20 morning, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly checked the condition of RDF Plant. This waste processing facility into alternative fuel is being complained of by residents due to rotten odor pollution.

Arriving at the location, Pramono wanted to know what caused the unpleasant odor in Rorotan RDF to be polluted to local residents' settlements.

Pramono also invited a number of residents who protested the foul smell to enter the RDF Plant commissioning area. Apparently, the smell came from old waste that was processed.

"Technically, the waste used should be garbage for the longest three days so that the garbage is fresh. There should be more than a month and so on," explained Pramono.

"So this is what then causes bacteria, smells, black trash, and so on," he added.

Thus, Pramono langusng instructed the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency to immediately carry out treatment. One of them is the installation of substances or tools to eliminate odors or deodorizers.
