Impact Of Infertility On Couples, Can Damage Relationships!
JAKARTA - Infertility is the inability of couples to get pregnant after having sexual intercourse regularly for one year or more, without using contraception. This condition is experienced by quite a number of couples, including in Indonesia.
According to data from the Indonesian In Vitro Fertility Association (PERFITRI) and several epidemiological studies, there are around 4-6 million couples who face difficulties in getting pregnant naturally or infertility. This of course should get attention, because the problem of infertility can have various bad impacts.
Director of PT Kato Ojin Group and head of the KOIC clinic, dr. Muhammad Dwi Priangga, Sp. OG, Subsp. FER, said that the bad impact of infertility, one of which is that it can damage husband and wife relationships. He said that 80 percent of couples who experience infertility have been damaged in their relationship as husband and wife.
"Dampak ke hubungan suami istri, itu 80 persen terganggu, kesehatan mental juga terganggu," tutur Dokter Priangga di Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan, pada Rabu, 19 Maret 2025.
Infertility also has an impact on someone's performance in the workplace, which makes it difficult for them to focus. Not only that, social relationships can also be disrupted, with so many people asking about children to those who are infertility.
"Working in the workplace is also disrupted, yes, it's not focused. Social relationships too, feelings of shame. For example, Lebaran was asked 'how come it hasn't been filled (pregnant)', it's stressful," he explained.
In addition, the physical health of couples who experience infertility can also worsen to financial stress. This financial stress is usually experienced by couples who have infertility to try to carry out a IVF program, which requires quite a lot of money.

"Physical health is also disturbed and financial stress that can make divorce (related to the cost of IVF)," concluded Doctor Priangga.
