Kidney Diseases Should Not Be Aggravated, Recognize Symptoms To How To Prevent Them
JAKARTA - The kidneys are one of the organs that has a very important function in the body, ranging from filtering blood to removing the remains of the inner product through urine.
Therefore, the kidneys must be maintained in order not to cause kidney disorders, which can reduce expectations and quality of life.
"The kidney disease is where the kidney function decreases or does not function acutely or chronicly," said the Internal Medicine Specialist for Kidney and Hypertension Consultants, Tunggul D. Situmorang, in Senayan, Jakarta, recently.
1. Types of kidney disease
Kidney diseases are divided into two types, namely acute kidney disease and chronic kidney disease. Acute kidney disease occurs suddenly and can be cured, while chronic kidney disease develops slowly that causes permanent kidney failure and cannot be restored.
"So there are two that are acute and chronic. What is acute is that it can return (recovered). If it is chronic, it will never be able to return (recovered)," said Doctor Tunggul.
2. Symptoms of kidney disease
Doctor Tunggul said that kidney disease mostly did not cause symptoms in the early stages, so it was also referred to as a "silent killer". Symptoms will generally appear if kidney damage gets worse, such as vomiting to reduced appetite.
"Actually, most of them are asymptomatic. If you have symptoms, it means that it is the final stage. Usually, the symptoms of high blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, weakness, headache, dry skin, and those that are common. If you press your feet, don't come back, "he explained.
If the patient is already at the stage of a critical chronic kidney disease, it can cause the breath that is emitted to smell like urine.
"In a critical condition, his urine syndrome drops. If he is close to his seat, then it smells like urine. It's because the ureum that should be in the blood is in the breath," he added.

3. Cause of kidney disease
The causes of kidney disease are divided into two, namely those that can be modified or overcome, and those that cannot be modified. Non-modified causes ranging from age to genetic factors.
"There are causes that can be modified and some that cannot be modified. What cannot be modified is people getting older, so the older the higher risk of kidney disease. Then born premature, or there is a family history of kidney disease, and other congenital diseases," he said.
Meanwhile, the causes of kidney disease that can be modified include hypertension to obesity, which can be controlled so as not to interfere with kidney function.
The modified cause is hypertension. Hypertension can be controlled, diabetes too, obesity, then drugs can also be controlled," he continued.
4. Prevention of kidney disease
Prevention of kidney disease can be done with primary prevention, namely prevention before contracting kidney disease. One way is to periodically check kidney health.
"For primary prevention, there are regular kidney checks, stay active and exercise regularly, control blood pressure, stop smoking and alcohol, control blood sugar, avoid taking non-essential medicines, eat balanced nutrition, and drink enough water," explained Doctor Tunggul.
Then there is secondary prevention, prevention is taken so that the patient's kidney disease does not increase to the chronic stage. If it is already at a chronic stage such as kidney failure, the patient can only do medical treatment, such as dialysis.
The secondary prevention, if it has been prevented, is slowed down so that it does not end-stage kidney failure and dialysis. If it has failed, rehabilitation is carried out, kidney replacement therapy, analyzed, or transplanted, "concluded Doctor Tunggul.
