ICE Car Last Audi Canceled Launch In 2026, Here's Why

JAKARTA - The German auto brand, Audi, is reportedly soon canceling its plans to launch the last ICE (ICE) gasoline car in 2026.

However, the manufacturer with the 'four rings' logo said it would decide this year on a new plan to stop the production of emissioned cars.

Audi CEO Gernot Dollner explained that ICE-engined cars are still needed today and emphasizes the substantial investment of manufacturers in new generation hybrid technology.

"For all global areas, we will see combustion engines take longer," Dollner was quoted as saying by Autocar, Wednesday, March 19.

Dollner is considering 2032 as the final period of combustion engines, but adoption of different electric vehicles in major global markets requires companies to maintain gasoline and diesel engines longer than previously planned.

"The year 2032 is a time we have communicated, but we have to re-evaluate that period," added Dollner.

Dollner also explained Audi's latest ICE car will continue to be sold until the end of the decade and the company is ready to extend the lifespan of the car if demand persists and the law allows it.

"Overall, the expansion of the combustion engine will have a positive impact on our business model," added Dollner.

Untuk diesel, Audi tetap akan menjadikannya sebagai salah satu penawaran penting. Namun, perusahaan tidak akan berinvestasi besar terhadap mesin diesel generasi terbaru.

We will not increase the number of diesel productions. If you look at the numbers, it decreases. However, the machine remains an important part of Audi and we are flexible, "explained Dollner.

Previously, Audi had announced that it would launch the final ICE engine in 2026. At that time, the model marking the end of the combustion engine from this brand was the latest generation Q7.
