Komdigi Jajaki Collaborates With Amazon Kuiper LEO Satellite Project

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital is exploring strategic cooperation with Amazon Kuiper, Amazon's low-orbit satellite project (Low Earth Orbit/LEO), to accelerate equal access to the internet in Indonesia.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid hopes that the presence of satellite tenology through this collaboration can expand connectivity and address digital inequalities in the leading, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions.

"We welcome Amazon Kuiper's commitment to supporting the expansion of digital connectivity in Indonesia. We are open to investment and any new technology that can help us achieve connectivity in Indonesia," said Meutya.

Amazon Kuiper is also applying for operational permits in Indonesia, including telecommunications licenses and satellite lending rights, according to the latest regulations that allow foreign companies to operate with the Business Identification Number (NIB).

Meanwhile, Amazon Project Kui's Global Head of Licensing and International Regulatory Affairs, Gonzalo de Dios, affirmed its commitment to providing wider internet access for the people of Indonesia.

Meutya added that the presence of this technology can support the development of the national digital ecosystem, including empowering Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and improving e-government, e-health, and e-education services.

"With investment support and innovation from the private sector, we can accelerate digital transformation and create greater opportunities for the community," he said.

Meutya pun menegaskan bahwa Kemkomdigi akan terus memfasilitasi proses perizinan dan diskusi yang diperlukan guna memastikan kelancaran proyek ini.
