173 Houses In Indramayu Damaged By Tornadoes

JABAR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 173 housing units had been damaged by a tornado since Sunday, March 16 afternoon.

BPBD Secretary Indramayu Asep Afandi said, of these, 142 units were lightly damaged and 31 were heavily damaged.

He said that apart from housing, the incident also caused several other buildings to be damaged, bringing the total affected buildings to 184 units.

"The affected buildings reached 184 units, including 173 residential units with lightly and heavily damaged categories," he said in Indramayu, Monday, March 17, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the incident began at around 15.45 WIB when the weather began to be cloudy. After a few minutes, heavy rains flushed the area.

Not long after, he continued, a tornado suddenly came and hit a residential area. The worst impact was felt in 6 RTs in the village.

Asep said, although the material loss was quite large, it was confirmed that there were no reports of casualties in this incident.

He conveyed that the joint team from BPBD, Taruna Siaga Disaster (Tagana), TNI, Polri, and local communities immediately moved quickly after the incident to help residents.

According to him, the joint team has cleaned up fallen tree materials and collected data on damaged buildings.

In addition, he continued, local governments have distributed logistical assistance to affected residents to ease their burden after the incident.

He added that the Indramayu Regency BPBD is currently coordinating with various parties to ensure the urgent needs of the community can be met immediately.

"Given the still potentially extreme weather conditions, BPBD urges the public to remain alert to the possibility of similar disasters in the Indramayu region," he said.
