Focusing On SDG Issues, Call For Code Hackathon Invites Developers To Build AI Solutions
JAKARTA - Creator Call for Code David Clark Cause, together with IBM Founding Partner (NYSE: IBM), Global Impact Partner United Nations Human Rights, and the Affiliate Linux Foundation Program invite developers and problemmakers to participate in the Call for Code 2025 program. This program aims to create projects and artificial intelligence-based solutions (AI) to help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Since its launch in 2018, Call for Code has mobilized developers globally to gather and create innovative solutions to help solve global challenges with technology. By 2025, Call for Code Global Challenge will question how AI can address humanitarian issues and have a real impact on communities around the world.
"Call for Code is a unique global technology initiative that inspires and empowers developers and problem solvers from around the world to take advantage of their talents in innovating for the sake of social good," said David Clark, Founder and CEO of Call for Code.
"I am very proud that Call for Code, together with its founding partners IBM, as well as UN Human Rights, have contributed to ensuring that technology can serve as a catalyst for sustainability, climate action, and humanitarian efforts," he added.
This year, participants had the opportunity to participate in five hackathon qualifiers as part of the One-year Call for Code Global Challenge, in collaboration with IBM TechXchange Client Advocacy team. At each event, the team will build a proof of concept original solution based on the SDG theme, by utilizing technologies such as watsonx, IBM AI product portfolio, and IBM Cloud services. Each hackathon will carry a different theme, which is related to one of 17 SDGs.
The first round of the Hackathon qualification will be held from March 20 to March 31, 2025. To commemorate World Water Day of the United Nations on March 22, the event invites participants to build proof-of-concept for virtual AI agents using watsonx.ai which can be used to address issues included in SDG6: Clean Water and Sanitation. In addition, Call for Code will organize a hackathon to tackle SDG 13: Climate Action as part of the Global Climate Right Here Summit, Right Now 2025, the world's largest human rights-based climate forum, organized by UN Human Rights (UN Human Rights Council), the University of Oxford, and held alongside several leading universities around the world.
"From the start, UN Human Rights was honored to be able to support Call for Code, and acknowledged that technology when based on human rights can be an extraordinary force for good," said Ansar Mahfoudh, Head of the Innovation and Analytics Hub at UN Human Rights.
"From the time we helped in launching this innovative initiative nearly a decade ago, we have supported a variety of projects that drive innovation for the sake of humanity. We remain committed to ensuring Call for Code continues to grow, empowering a social good-oriented coder community and placing humans at the center of technology and innovation solutions."
"Call for Code is a unique opportunity to interact directly with AI, build developing new skills, network with problem-solving communities with the same vision, and create solutions," said past Nirmal, IBM Senior Vice President, IBM Software. "This year, there is free access to industry-leading company-level IBM software like watsonx.ai for participants. I am excited to see the innovations the team will produce to have a positive impact."
A team consisting of one to five developers, can compete for prizes at every hackathon.
