Jakarta Beware Of Rob Floods Ahead Of Eid, This Is The Trigger

JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government is aware of the potential for coastal flooding or tidal flooding that occurs at the end of March 2025 or several days before the Idulfitri 1446 Hijri holiday.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Isnawa Adji said the tidal flood in Jakarta at the end of March was triggered by the full moon.

"Based on BMKG data, the phenomenon of a wormhole moon or full moon that occurs in conjunction with the phase of a perigee moon or lunar eclipse has the potential to cause coastal flooding in Indonesia, including Jakarta," Isnawa said in his statement, Friday, March 14.

Isnawa said, as a potential tidal flood disaster mitigation, BPBD prepared personnel and equipment, such as rubber boats in locations prone to tidal flooding to carry out rapid responses.

"In addition, BPBD has also alerted the Jakarta Alert 112 call center service which operates 24 hours to deal with emergency events including the impact of tidal flooding," said Isnawa.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has also carried out weather modification operations (OMC) for 10 days from March 11 to 20, 2025, to encourage the growth of rain clouds to the sea.

"The impact of this phenomenon can be even greater if it is accompanied by bad weather in coastal areas. For this reason, OMC is carried out to reduce the intensity of rain in the DKI Jakarta area," he said.

Meanwhile, for the long-term flood management, the government continues the project to build coastal embankments and sea embankments in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) Phase A program along 39 kilometers.

"In addition to the construction of embankments, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta SDA Office has also strengthened the tidal control polder system equipped with rubber dams to hold sea water so that it does not overflow back to the mainland and optimize the use of pumps," he said.
