75 Years of Bilateral Relations, Indonesia-Thailand Plan to Reactivate Bilateral Mechanism
JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the commitment to reactivate the bilateral mechanism with Thailand, as bilateral relations between the two countries enter their 75th year in 2025.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Sugiono when receiving a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, Prapan Disyatat at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta on Wednesday.
The two discussed steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand, especially considering that this year is the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement as quoted on March 13.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on that occasion Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the commitment of the two countries in revitalizing the bilateral mechanism at the Ministerial level, including exploring plans for a visit by high-ranking Indonesian officials to Thailand in the near future.
The plan to reactivate the bilateral mechanism between the two countries is expected to further strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including politics-security, economics-investment and people-to-people contact, as well as development cooperation.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Sugiono also expressed his appreciation for the support and cooperation of the Thai Government in seeking the repatriation of Indonesian citizens who are victims of TPPO (Human Trafficking Crimes), especially online scams, in the border areas of Thailand and Myanmar.

It is known that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Thailand have been established since March 7, 1950.
Currently, Thailand is one of Indonesia's strategic partners in the trade and investment sector. In 2024, total bilateral trade will reach 17 billion US dollars, while the value of Thailand's investment in Indonesia in the same period will reach 389.7 million US dollars.
Thailand is Indonesia's strategic partner in the region, both for strengthening ASEAN centrality, resolving the Myanmar issue and also handling cross-border crimes.
