Minister Of Home Affairs Says Indonesia's Condition Targets Gold Indonesia Like China In 1998
JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian said Indonesia's current condition wants Indonesia Gold 2045 and status as a developed country, the same as China's conditions in 1998.
Tito made the statement after conveying his personal experience while undergoing the Staff and Command School (Sesko) in New Zealand, and Australia.
"Every day discussed is only the threat from China (threat from China), the rise of China (Chinese revival), in 1998. At that time, various writings estimated that China in the next 25 years would be the same as the US (United States), even overtake, surpassing," Tito said at the 2025 Development Planning Technical Coordination Meeting (Rakortekrenbang) which was held online, and witnessed from Jakarta, Wednesday.
In addition, he explained that regional conditions in China, such as Beijing and Shanghai, were no better than Jakarta in 1998.
"I see, to be honest, Jakarta was better than China in 1998. We saw a lot of people riding bicycles there, then slum houses, slum areas, then the rivers were dirty black and black," he said.

However, he explained that this condition was different when he visited China in 2024.
Beijing is already in the same class as Washington DC, their public transportation is underground, clean, and so on, very effective. Shanghai is almost the same as New York, "he explained.
Later, he argued that China is superior to the United States because it has public transportation for high-speed trains, and is currently producing trains that have speeds of up to 500 kilometers per hour.
"Well, I want to describe that sense of optimism. The writings in 1998, something that's almost impossible (almost impossible) in 25 years China will be the same as America, but that's what's actually happening now," he said.
Therefore, he invites all parties, including local governments, to be optimistic that Indonesia can become a developed country in the next 20 years, namely 2045.
"We must all be optimistic with all the existing requirements, capabilities, and potential. It is only a matter of political stability and security, and growth that is maintained, and making leaps of innovation creations, and the most important thing is cohesiveness between the central and regional governments," said the Minister of Home Affairs to representatives of the regional government who attended the 2025 Coordination Meeting.
