Tigers Entering Trap Cages In Agam West Sumatra Experience Defects, BKSDA Disposes To Rehabilitation Locations

The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) stated that the Sumatran tiger that entered the trap cage in Nagari (Village) Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra), was in a defective condition on the left front leg.

"The front leg is left of the tiger with a pontong condition and this is based on our monitoring," said Head of the Conservation Resort Region II Maninjau BKSDA West Sumatra Ade Putra in Lubuk Basung, Wednesday, March 12, as reported by Antara.

He said the Bayia tigris sumatrae had a defect suspected of being caught in a snare, so the ability to hunt their prey in the forest was reduced.

As a result, these rare animals prey on the residents' livestock.

"This is the second tiger that has defects, because previously there was also a disabled tiger and the tiger died from being caught in a pig snare on July 26, 2024," he said.

He added that this tiger would be evacuated and after that the tiger was immediately taken to a rehabilitation site for health observation.

"We evacuated the students to be taken to the rehabilitation site and made observations in determining gender, age, health conditions and others," said Ade.

He added that the tiger entered the trap cage, estimated on Tuesday, March 11 evening.

West Sumatra BKSDA officers together with the Baringin Nagari Children's Patrol Team (Pagari), Wali Jorong Taruyan, and the surrounding community, monitored the trap cage not far from the location on Monday, March 11 evening.

At that time, he added, there were sounds in the cage and the sound of the animal's roar.

"Given that it was still night, we only monitored it remotely until Wednesday, March 12 morning, so in the morning we confirmed and it was true that there were tigers in the cage," said Ade.
