Liverpool Need The Best Performance This Season Against PSG

JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Arne Slot said his team should feature their best performances this season against Paris Saint-Germain if they are to secure a Champions League quarter-final place.

Liverpool had a narrow advantage in the round of 16 after beating PSG 1-0 in the first leg despite the hosts dominating in the Parc des Princes.

Slot admitted last week that his team was very lucky to win the game. Now he asks his players to step up their game in the second leg.

"I think (Liverpool needs to give their best performances this season) because this is the most complete team we've ever faced so far," Slot said at a press conference on Monday, March 10, 2025, local time.

"Of course, we've faced Arsenal and Manchester City. Not because the difference is big, but the intensity of the game (PSG) combined with the quality they have."

"Honestly, we talk about the richest clubs. So, they have so many great qualities and managers because they bring out the best of every player."

"He brings great work ethic in the team. So, that's why I think we have to be in our best form."

"I'm not at all surprised by the (PSG) performance. They really impressed me".

"Before last week's game, I watched a lot of their games. I was really impressed by the intensity of their game, team cohesiveness, rotation in midfield."

"They are a very complete team, well managed team and we experienced it last week."

"Some people say we played badly, I don't agree. I think they played very well."

"I don't think we've ever faced a team that combines quality with intensity like that this season, but I think we can play better."

"I'm not saying we played badly or weren't good at all, but we were a better team than last week."

"That is something we have to prove with the help of our supporters," said the Dutch coach.

Sentimen Arne Slot diamini oleh penyerang Diogo Jota, yang juga bermain dalam pertandingan minggu lalu di Paris.

When asked if it was the toughest match Liverpool have ever faced this season, he didn't deny it.

"Yes, I think so, at least in my opinion. I've definitely missed several games this season, but I don't think the game's way is what it plans to do."

"I think it also shows that, even though things are not going well, we are working hard and staying in the game to take advantage of our chances."

"It means a lot and shows the character this team has. It's very positive to be brought to the rest of the season."

"They control the ball more than we expected. They dominate the game, they create chances."

"Obviously, we were too far from their goal, but in the end we won the game."

"We know that tomorrow with our fans, we want to show a different face and the game will definitely be different. But, in the end, we just want to win," said Jota.

Liverpool will host Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 at Anfield, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, early morning WIB.
