India Successfully Returns 283 Citizens From Scam Center In Myanmar

JAKARTA - The Indian government managed to repatriate nearly 300 of its citizens, who were provoked by offers of fake jobs in Southeast Asia, especially Myanmar.

All the victims who were provoked were then forced to engage in cybercrimes such as online fraud, love scams, illegal gambling, and so on, along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

India's Embassy in Myanmar and Thailand has coordinated with local authorities to secure the repatriation of 283 Indian nationals today on an IAF (Indian Air Force) aircraft from Mae Sot in Thailand," said Indi's foreign ministry.

According to Reuters, thousands of people have been released from fraud centers or scam centers this year. Countries have also worked together to crack down on the criminal network. Even China and Indonesia have repatriated some of their citizens last month.

Last month, the Myanmar Government stated that it had handed over 84 Indonesian citizens (WNI) to representatives of the Indonesian government, on February 27, to be repatriated through Thailand.

According to the United Nations, this criminal gang has traded hundreds of thousands of people to these fraud centers, to generate billions of US dollars in a year, by committing fraud, online gambling and so on.

India also warned its citizens against fraud, suggesting they to "verify" the credentials of foreign employers and examine "backgrounds" recruitment agents and companies before accepting job offers.
