Juventus Lost Four Goals To Atalanta, Reminds Bad Record 58 Years Ago

JAKARTA - Juventus still have not been able to appear consistent this season. Most recently, they lost 0-4 at home to Atalanta in the 28th week of Serie A 2024/2025, Monday, March 10, 2025, early morning WIB.

The Old Lady's manager, Thiago Motta, insists that the defeat to Atalanta is not equivalent to their elimination from the Coppa Italia quarter-finals against Empoli (a 2-4 penalty shootout). So, he didn't feel the need to apologize to Juventus supporters.

Mateo Retegui's penalty paved the way for a one-way game in the second half, when Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta, and Ademola Lookman tore up the defense for a 4-0 result.

Half of the crowd left the pitch after the fourth goal, while others remained holding on to continue to insult their team.

"I think we started a game we knew it would be complicated, against a team that wanted to take advantage of our mistakes as best we could."

"After the penalty, without discussing the details of how debatable it is, it was a painful moment."

"We were a young team, we tried to move forward and get back into the game, but it left a gap in the back line."

"We fought psychologically with that first goal and became unbalanced, giving Atalanta more space to run with players like Lookman and their full-backs."

"After a defeat like this, we are sad, we are disappointed, but at the same time talks about the Scudetto you brought to us will no longer be discussed," Thiago Motta told DAZN.

Juventus had more possession tonight, but the comparison went bad.

Juventus and Atalanta drew 1-1 in Bergamo in January 2025, but instead looked lame when they played the second Serie A meeting at Juventus Stadium.

"It was a completely different game than in Bergamo, Atalanta played in a different way and brought their game to us."

"Today, especially after the first goal, we saw that we were trying to go forward and make mistakes, which made it easier for the team to be very strong in counter-attacks."

"We knew it could have happened before the game. That's why I said it was so sad that the deadlock was broken by penalties even though it was debatable. We became too unbalanced and made them much easier," said Thiago Motta.

Luka Juventus didn't stop there. The Old Lady has never lost in Serie A's home game with a four-goal difference since October 1967.

The last time a bad record was set when he lost the Derby Turin against Torino 0-4.

This means that the defeat against Atalanta was worse than their elimination from the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on penalties after a score of 1-1 after 120 minutes.

You see, La Dea really dominated the Old Lady, but the coach didn't see it that way.

"It was a defeat we didn't like, but I didn't like it to lose to Empoli."

"It was a different situation. Our team started well and then after the penalty incident, the game changed."

"We need to maintain a balance and we didn't, but partly because of a lack of experience in the team," said Thiago Motta.

Thiago Motta was once Gian Piero Gasperini's player in Genoa to revive his career, but he was taught valuable lessons by his mentor tonight.

Next, Juventus will travel to Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina headquarters, on March 17, 2025. Thiago Motta has ambitions that the match can be a revival of his troops after appearing inconsistent in the last six matches in all competitions.

The Old Lady won and lost in that period or three wins and three losses.

"Now we have to reunite against another good team, Fiorentina, and keep going," said Motta.
