Jonathan Refuses To Be Complacent With All England Defending Champion Status

JAKARTA Jonatan Christie's men's singles badminton player refused to be complacent with his status as defending champion when he struggled this week to keep his title at All England 2025.

All England, a tournament leveled Super 1000 BWF, is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Utilita Arena, Birmingham, England. Indonesia sent 11 representatives to the event.

Last year, Jonathan ended the drought of the Indonesian men's singles title which had been going on for three decades by defeating his compatriot, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, in the final round.

"I don't want to be too complacent with last year's results that have passed. This year something new is again, something different is for sure. So, focus one by one," said Jonathan.

Jonathan and the Indonesian team have two days of preparation in the UK to finalize their strategy and adapt to the country's cold weather. Britain is currently in the weather ranging from 10 to 16 degrees Celsius.

The weather is much better than last year which was below eight degrees Celsius.

"Hopefully this week everything can go well," said Jonathan, who is the third seed at All England 2025.

The Indonesian badminton team will still undergo two exercises on Monday, March 10, 2025. The first exercise took place at the practice court in the afternoon of England's time and was followed by testing the match arena in the evening.

This year, Jonathan's men's singles number left there with Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. Ginting pulled out of the tournament because his condition was not ready after the arm problem that occurred at the Malaysia Open 2025.

Apart from Jonathan, defending champion of the men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto also took part this year. Men's doubles recorded the most representatives, namely four pairs.

The other three pairs who played were Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin, and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

Then in the women's singles sector there was the bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, with her colleague Putri Kusuma Wardani. The last name is debutant at the event which provides prizes of 1.3 million US Dollars.

The other three representatives are women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi as well as mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
