JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Vietnam Communist Party (PKV), To Lam will make a state visit to Indonesia on March 9, 2025," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, To Lam is scheduled to meet with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the potential for cooperation that can increase bilateral relations between Indonesia and Vietnam to a higher level.

"This visit was the first time for To Lam as Secretary General of PKV and was very meaningful, because it coincided with 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, Friday, March 7.

Relations between Indonesia and Vietnam have experienced rapid development for seven decades. The cohesive cooperation between the two countries is also reflected in the agreement of strategic partnerships in bilateral relations in 2013, making Vietnam the only one that has a level of strategic partnership with Indonesia in the region.

"The foundations of a solid relationship have been established since the friendship between President Soekarno and President Ho Chi Minh, who both have a vision against colonialism," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the trade sector, the transaction value between the two countries has doubled in the last five years, reaching 16.7 billion US dollars by 2024. Both countries have a target of achieving a trade value of 18 billion US dollars by 2028.

In terms of investment, Indonesia has 123 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total value of more than 680 million US dollars, thus placing Indonesia in 29th place out of 143 countries investing in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's investment in Indonesia has also increased, with the establishment of VinFast's USD 1.2 billion electric car in July 2024.

The two countries also have the same vision, becoming a high-income country in 2045, when Indonesia and Vietnam celebrate 100 years of independence.

To jointly achieve this vision, various innovative cooperations are planned to be agreed upon during this visit, by increasing cooperation that focuses on food security, digital, renewable energy and high tech industry.

It is known, in Vietnam's constitutional system, the position of the Secretary General of PKV is the highest political leader of the four pillars of state leadership, namely the Secretary General of PKV, the President, the Prime Minister and the Chair of the Senate.
