Jokowi Asks For Normalization Of The Ciliwung River To Continue

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo requested that the normalization of the Ciliwung River which crosses a number of points in Jakarta can be continued to minimize potential flooding.

"What we have to know is that 13 rivers are passed in Jakarta, not only Ciliwung, there are Pesanggrahan, Cipinang, and others," he said in Solo, Central Java, Thursday, March 6.

He said that currently the largest river dam has been built, namely Ciliwung, to be precise, which was built in the upper area, namely in Bogor Regency.

"There is a Ciawi Reservoir and Sukamahi Reservoir. This is a dry reservoir to hold water, but if there is more water, it doesn't accommodate it, like it or not, the water must go outside," he said.

Therefore, Jokowi requested that the normalization of the Ciliwung River be continued.

"The Ciliwung River, which lives 16 km, must be continued in order to reduce it. After Ciliwung is completed, there are 12 other rivers that need to be normalized," he said.

Jokowi said the risk of flooding was not only from rainwater but also due to overflowing sea water.

"There is still water from the sea that rises every year 8-13 cm so it is estimated that on the satellite NASA in the 2050s a third of Jakarta can be flooded from the sea as well as from above," he said.

Asked about the government's plan to build Giant Sea Wall or a giant sea embankment, according to him, it also needs to be done immediately.

"It became Pak Prabowo's government program, it was very urgent," he said.
