Indonesia Will Affirm The Rejection Of The Idea Of Relocation Of Palestinians And The Focus Of Gaza Reconstruction At Tomorrow's OKI Meeting
JAKARTA - Indonesia will reaffirm its position regarding the rejection of various ideas for the relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and focus on the issue of the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave, at tomorrow's Islamic Cooperation Organization (OKI) meeting.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugino is scheduled to attend an emergency meeting of the OIC foreign minister in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Friday, March 7. Foreign Minister Sugiono, who is currently in Doha, Qatar, will attend the meeting which was also initiated by Indonesia.
"Indonesia will reaffirm our position on Palestine, stressing it will not accept any ideas regarding the relocation of Gazans," said Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Roy Soemirat in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday, March 6.
Roy explained that the meeting would also be used to invite the international community to focus on postwar reconstruction of Gaza, discuss mechanisms to its implementation form.
"We have to talk about how the international community can focus on the reconstruction of Gaza, doesn't have to wait, it has to start from now on. What and how it will take shape and how the mechanism to do it so that it is right on target, that's what we have to talk about from the start," Roy explained.
He added that the problem of the Gaza Strip is very close to the government and the people of Indonesia.
"From the start, we have conveyed that we will be involved in efforts by the international community in reconstructing Gaza," he concluded.
