MG Has No Interest In Playing In The Micro EV Segment In Indonesia, Here's The Reason

JAKARTA - MG Motor Indonesia has no plans to play in the micro ev segment or tiny electric cars. In fact, in India this brand of one has a Comet model which is a twin of Wuling Air ev.

For the record, Wuling and MG are indeed in the same auspices, namely SAIC Motor. As a result, several Wuling models are also sold under the MG brand, especially in India with different offers.

Back to the micro segment, CEO of MG Motor Indonesia, He Guowei, said that in order to present one product, one must consider many things, including manufacturing that always talks about scale.

"Manufacturing talk is always on a scale, now for MG specializing in playing in the volume of the middle-up segment, and micro is not our style," he said, when met at a joint iftar event in Jakarta.

Furthermore, the man who is familiarly called Alec said that although the volume (micro ev segment) was large, the resulting margin was not necessarily good.

MG Comet EV Specifications

As previously reported by VOI, MG Comet EV is a rebadged version of Wuling Air ev. In interior and exterior design, even technology embedded is almost similar to Wuling Air ev.

However, there is a difference in the battery capacity, for MG Comet EV equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery with a claim distance of 228 kilometers deep below the Wuling Air EV with a 26.7 kWh battery with a longer distance of 300 kilometers.

Regarding the price, the MG Comet EV is priced at 798,000 rupees of around Rp. 142 million, and is a strong challenger for BYD Seagull, to the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV in the Indian market.
