Breaking The World Record, Japanese Architect Creates The Smallest Park In The World The Size Of Two A3 Papers

JAKARTA - When they heard the word ' garden', most people imagined a large green open space, filled with trees, flowers, and benches to relax. However, a park in Japan managed to set a world record as the smallest world park in the world with an area of less than one square meter.

Reporting from the Guinness World Records page, the smallest park in the world is located in Nagaizumi City, Shizuoka Prefecture, about an hour from Tokyo, Japan. After a short walk from Nagaizumi City Hall through the residential area, you will see an object on an empty land.

This is the smallest park in the world. The area is only 0.24 m square, equivalent to two sheets of A3 paper. The size is nothing more than a piece of paper. This park has entrances, small benches, and a little grass.

According to Shuji Koyama, head of Nagaizumi City's construction management division, the park was created in 1988 to make the best use of the empty space on the side of the road.

"At that time, a staff member went on vacation to the United States and found the record holder of the smallest park before, namely Mill Ends Park in Portland, Oregon. From there, there was a desire to create a smaller park," Koyama explained.

Since its creation, Nagaizumi City has called this park the smallest park in the world unofficially. At its unique size, this park is often covered by the media. In addition, this park is also used by local residents as a place to relax, as well as an attraction for tourists to take pictures.

However, the city wants this park to be officially recognized as the smallest park in the world. For this reason, they bring in professional surveyors to properly measure the park area and collect additional information according to the Guinness World Records (GWR) guidelines.

Koyama said he was relieved, because finally the park in his city has officially become the smallest park in the world.

"We want to take care of a community park and create a more attractive landscape for social media, so that more people are interested in visiting our city." said Koyama.
