Kia Collaborates With Samsung For PBV Business, Presents Unbounded Connectivity
JAKARTA - Various automotive manufacturers often form partnerships with well-known electronics companies to support the best mobility and experience embedded in each vehicle.
This time, Kia Corporation, which collaborates with Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd. to introduce the next generation 'Internet of Things' (IoT) solution for the Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBV) product.
The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Kia EV Day 2025 which took place in Spain to mark a significant step that redefined the experience of In-Vehicle and Out-of-Vehicle for PBV customers.
This collaboration is in line with the broader platform Beyond Vehicle Kia strategy that seeks to expand the role of PBV outside of transportation so that it can become a special business solution that is integrated into a wider digital ecosystem.
Head of Kia's PBV Division Sangdae Kim, said PBV Kia is designed not only into a vehicle, but also as a smart business solution that is smoothly connected to the digital ecosystem.
"We see that our business collaboration with Samsung, through the AI B2B SmartThings Pro solution, will be able to expand the experience of vehicle users for our business customers outside of PBV into a wider IoT ecosystem. This partnership is expected to create new opportunities to find customer value," Sangdae said, in an official statement received on Wednesday, March 5.
Later, Kia will integrate Samsung's IoT platform, 'SmartThings Pro', into its PBV, enabling wireless control of devices and technologies connected through the 'Plug & Play' service.
Interestingly, this solution allows business customers to integrate and manage IoT-capable equipment without complicated installations, simply by installing smart connectors.
Executive Vice President of B2B Integrated Offering Center at Samsung Electronics, Chanwoo Park, said that by integrating the SmartThings Pro into Kia PBV, we plan to present a smart new way for businesses to connect with customers.
"We will provide an integrated store management experience optimized based on adapted solutions to serve various B2B customers including entrepreneurs and small business owners," said Chanwoo.

Connectivity between PBV and the business world
By integrating the SmartThings Pro into its PBV, Kia allows automatic connectivity between vehicles and business spaces. This integration allows B2B customers to configure business routines, activating appropriate routines based on the goals included in PBV's 'In-Vehicle Infotainment' (IVI). This allows smooth and secure management and monitoring of external business operations, even while on the way.
For example, when small bakeries owners set the nearest wholesale market as a destination, pre-programd business routines will activate the 'Evidient Purchase' ('Ingruent Purchase Mode') mode and the vehicle's internal cooling system will be automatically customized to ensure the ingredients stay fresh during the trip.
After that, the materials purchased and shops are designated as destinations, 'Travel Mode' (Commute Mode) will activate. This allows shop owners to prepare shop before arriving by turning on air conditioning, nameplates, and other equipment.
