Head Of BMKG Ensures Weather Modification, Priority Of Bogor Peak Area
JAKARTA - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Prof. Dwikorita Karnawati revealed the weather modification strategy carried out by BMKG to reduce the intensity of rain in several areas.
Dwikorita explained that the weather modification is planned to be held until March 8 in areas that are considered vulnerable, meaning that the area has the weak carrying capacity to receive rain.
"We, the BMKG will make weather modifications. The concept is to block clouds that should move, blowing into vulnerable areas before entering vulnerable areas. So, being dropped, for example at sea, is not dropped on land," said the Head of BMKG when met at the Palace after attending a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 4.
Dwikorita explained that the clouds were divided or lowered so as not to gather into a collection of clouds. The clouds that collect cause the intensity of the rain to become high
"If it is not taken down, then the clouds will burst, collect, as yesterday it was a collection of clouds, if we look at the cloud satellite it is almost as wide as the West Java Province. So, West Java Province, from satellite, has been covered with clouds. In fact, to Lampung and Palembang, "he said.
Through weather modifications, BMKG seeks to prevent the clouds formed to grow into a collection of clouds.
"Don't let the clouds grow that much so that they still come a little lower at sea, come a little lower in the reservoir," continued Dwikorita.

Some of the areas targeted by BMKG's weather modifications include mountainous areas in West Java.
"For tomorrow, the priority is in West Java, because it is the most spaced in West Java, especially in mountainous areas, in Puncak, the clouds come from there. Later, it could be a source of flooding to go downstream. Not only affected by West Java, but it can also flow to the north, to DKI (Jakarta) as well as floods, it is feared that it could. The rivers also flow to the north, "said the Head of BMKG.
High-intensity rain has flushed the Puncak, Bogor, and Bekasi areas, then Depok, and Jakarta since the beginning of this week, causing several rivers to overflow and inundate areas in Bekasi, Depok, and several in Jakarta.
