Meeting Refugees, Rano Karno Invites Flood-affected Residents To Move To Flats
JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno (Doel) invited residents affected by the flood to move to flats (rusun). This was revealed by Rano after visiting flood evacuation posts in Kampung Melayu Village and Bidara Cina, East Jakarta.
"I told the mother earlier, 'how many years have you lived on the banks of the river?'. Oh, it's been 30 years. That's why I said 'this is what you want to do? Come on, let's move to the flats'. We have flats," said Rano, Monday, March 3.
Rano said that the DKI Provincial Government is preparing 3 flat towers in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta. This flat will later be opened to residents who have been living along the river and are often flooded.
Although the facilities are not as complete as apartments, Rano views that the standard occupancy in the flats is sufficient for Jakarta residents.
"Let's move to the flats. Don't dream of an apartment. If the flats are all the same standards. But thank God the standard for DKI flats is good. If you don't have a house, stay in the flats," said Rano.
Moreover, Rano emphasized that the government is running a Ciliwung normalization program that returns the river width to normal. Like it or not, residents who live on the banks of the river must move from their homes.
"Indeed, if you want an ideal, it must be big. It's just that this has become like this. In the past, Ciliwung was 50 meters of RO, it's wide. Now there may be 20, some are 30 (meters), not the same. If you want, everything must be matched," explained Rano.
