The Search For The Submarine KRI Nanggala-402 Is Still Nil

DENPASAR - The search process for the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine is still nil. The submarine went missing in Bali waters on Wednesday, April 21.

"Until now there is no definite information regarding the submarine KRI Nanggala-402 which reportedly lost contact in the waters of northern Bali. It is currently in the search process," said the Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Headquarters, Maj. Gen. Achmad Riad at a press conference at the Base Ops Base Ngurah Rai, Badung. , Bali quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 22.

The TNI Commander in Chief, TNI Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, also conveyed the same thing, when confirmed by reporters.

"The submarine KRI Nanggala-402 reportedly lost contact in northern Bali waters, Wednesday (21/4) at 03.00 WIT is still being searched in Bali waters, 60 miles (sea) from Bali," he said.

At 03.45 WIT, Wednesday, April 21, the KRI Nanggala-402 conducted a dive. At around 04.00 WIT, KRI Nanggala-402 carried out the inundation of the number 8 torpedo launcher instead of the missile.

This was the last communication with KRI Nanggala at 04.25 WIT when the commander of the training task force would authorize the firing of the torpedo.

"We are currently in the search process," said the Head of the Indonesian Navy's Information Service, First Admiral Julius Widjojono.

Technically, the KRI Nanggala-402 comes from the Type 209/1300 made by the Howaldtswerke shipyard in Kiel, West Germany, which was ordered by Indonesia in 1977, and entered active service in 1981.

The propulsion system of the KRI Nanggala-402 consists of a low-speed Siemens diesel-electric motor whose labor is directly channeled to the propeller at the stern.

The thrust strength is 5,000 shp (shaft horse power), while the electric batteries weighing about 25 percent of the gross weight of the ship store electric power. There are four supercharged MTU diesel engines that are responsible for supplying the ship's electric power.

Regarding the search, TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto asked for help from Singapore and Australia to search for the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine which had lost contact in Bali waters.
