Chegg Files Antitrust Lawsuit Against Google Overview AI
JAKARTA -CHegg, an online education platform, sued Google for making the AI Overview feature on its search engine. The lawsuit was filed on February 24 with a claim to cost its revenue.
This is the first antitrust lawsuit for the AI Overview feature. Chegg CEO Nathanmen, said that Google had acted unfairly by utilizing the company's content in the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based feature.
"(Google) is reaping financial benefits from Chegg content without having to spend a penny," kottong said in a written statement for investors.
This lawsuit makes quite a sense because Google Search users may be more lazy to open a website to get the desired answer. The reason is, when a user asks a question, AI Overview will summarize answers from various webs.
Although the AI Overview display includes links to related links, a number of users will miss the source to get answers quickly. Therefore, it is not surprising that Chegg thinks that AI Overview is detrimental to the digital industry.

Google denies that AI Overview is detrimental to media or other websites. According to the company, the presence of AI Overview actually benefits the digital industry because the number of clicks has increased.
"Every day, Google sends billions of clicks to sites across the web, and AI Overview sends traffic to more sites," said Google spokesman Jose Castaneda.
