Boy Dies Stuck In Waterway, Police Close Pool Swimming Hotel ANB Garut

Garut Police installed a police line and closed the swimming pool after the incident of a six-year-old tourist being interested in a pool drain in Pameungpeuk District, Garut Regency, West Java.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Garut Police, AKP Joko Prihatin, said that the ANB Garut Hotel swimming pool tourist spot was temporarily closed until an undetermined time limit, and could be reopened when the investigation process was completed and security standards were met.

"Later (it will be opened) after the security standards are met," said Joko, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 24.

The police received a report that a Bagja Nurjaman (6) boy suddenly pulled his hand into the sewer while swimming in the ANB swimming pool, Sunday (23/2) at around 10:00 WIB.

The police then processed the crime scene for investigation purposes by collecting evidence and asking for witness statements.

"For the time being, we have examined several witnesses related to the incident, we are conducting an investigation," he said.

Regarding the examination of the owner of the swimming pool tourist attraction, he said, a summons would also be made for questioning about the incident that killed one tourist.

The results of the temporary investigation, he said, could not be concluded whether or not there was an element of negligence, because his staff was still investigating to uncover the case.

"We have not concluded, we are still investigating," he said.

The incident began when the victim played a slide in the pool one meter deep and suddenly his hand was pulled into the water channel, making it difficult to return to the surface.

The victim, who was difficult to evacuate, could not be saved so the victim died, then was taken to the hospital.

The incident happened to a child in the swimming pool and was recorded on video by visitors who broadcast the process of rescuing victims in the swimming pool, even some visitors tried to drain the pool water with makeshift equipment.
