Legislator Commission V DPR Criticism Of The Minister Of Public Works' Discourse To Change The Design Of The DPR Building At IKN
JAKARTA - Member of Commission V DPR RI Sudjatmiko criticized the discourse of the Minister of Public Works who plans to change the design of the DPR building in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) by referring to digital search services such as Google. According to him, this seems far-fetched and inefficient.
"If you want to change the design, it's better to consult with the Secretariat General of the DPR or members of the DPR as a user. How come this refers to Google instead," said Sudjatmiko to reporters, Monday, February 24.
Sudjatmiko then proposed that the DPR remain based in Jakarta. This proposal is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's instructions to make budget efficiency to prioritize community needs.
According to him, the construction of the DPR building in the State Capital (IKN) will cost a lot of money. He suggested that the DPR building in IKN only function as a secretariat office, similar to the offices of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia in the regions.
"Thus, the existing budget can be diverted to meet the needs of the community which is more urgent," he said.
Sudjatmiko assessed that there are still many basic needs of the community that have not been met, such as road construction, habitable houses, sanitation, and clean toilets. He asked the Ministry of Public Works (PU) to allocate a budget to meet these needs.
"We ask the Minister of Public Works to focus on completing the unfinished 2025 work plan, while still paying attention to the principle of budget efficiency," he said.
The PKB legislator from the West Java VI electoral district revealed that although the DPR/MPR RI complex in Jakarta is already congested, the construction of the DPR building in IKN is currently not urgent, considering that there are still many other more important infrastructure needs.
He considered that the budget for the construction of new buildings in IKN would be better diverted for infrastructure development which would immediately benefit the community. According to him.

"If in normal situations where there is no massive efficiency from the government, please build a parliament building and other buildings at IKN are boosted. But if there is a budget limitation, it is better to make a priority scale," said Sudjatmiko.
