Ministry Of Agriculture: Imported Cattle Parentation Enters Livestock Investment Commitment
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (Ditjen PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) stated that the entry of imports of broiler cattle from Australia to Indonesia is proof and commitment to investment in the livestock sector.
"This arrival marks the commitment of business actors to strengthen the national broiler's population and reduce dependence on beef imports," said Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture Agung Suganda as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, February 23.
He said as many as 200 progenital cows and 3,000 feeder cows from Australia arrived in Indonesia.
Thousands of cows arrived via Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta on February 21, 2025.
Agung stated that the shipment of cows carried out by PT Lembu Male Perkasa was part of the long-term strategy of the livestock industry.
"We are witnessing the inaugural arrival of the parent cow from Australia, which is expected to accelerate the increase in domestic beef production," said Agung.
Agung explained that the import of this parent cow is an obligation for cattle fatting companies (feedloters), as stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture Number 15 of 2021, which requires feedloters to bring in at least 3 percent of the mother cows from their cage capacities.
In addition to the mother cows, the arrival of 3,000 feeder cows is also part of a strategy to anticipate the provision of beef ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
The momentum of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr has always been a challenge in maintaining price stability. With the arrival of this feeder cow, we are trying to ensure the availability of beef at a reasonable price," said Agung.
The Ministry of Agriculture ensures that all incoming cows meet the health requirements of the animals according to applicable regulations.
Deputy for Animal Quarantine of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) Sriyanto said his party had carried out a series of procedures to ensure the health of these imported cows.
"Before the cows are released, we will carry out a series of things that are shown to ensure that the cows that enter are free from disease and vaccinate against mouth and nail disease so that we hope that the reproduction will run smoothly," explained Sriyanto.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Joint Indonesian Beef Cattle Business Actors (Gapuspindo) Djoni Liano added that the newly arrived feeder cattle will soon be processed for fatting.
"This cow will be processed for fatting so that it is ready to meet the needs of meat during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," said Djoni.
The move is in line with the government's efforts to strengthen the national livestock industry.
With the increase in the broiler's population, it is hoped that the dependence of beef imports can be reduced gradually, while improving the welfare of local breeders.
