Limit On New Money Exchange For Eid 2025, Higher Than Last Year

YOGYAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) increased the new money exchange limit for Eid 2025 to IDR 4.3 million per person from Lebaran last year which was only IDR 4 million per person. BI Deputy Governor Doni Primanto Joewono said the increase in restrictions was made due to the high interest of the public in exchanging money ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

"Because there is interest in exchanging, we will increase the exchange value from Rp. 4 million to Rp. 4.3 million," he said at a press conference at the BI Board of Governors Meeting, Wednesday (19/2).

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Doni Primanto Joewono said that the need for cash during the Eid al-Fitr period usually absorbs almost 25 percent of all cash needs for a year. However, the readiness of cash at this year's Eid al-Fitr moment has decreased from the previous year which reached Rp197.6 trillion. Because Bank Indonesia sees an opportunity to expand digital transactions.

Doni Primanto Joewono also mentioned that the money to be distributed was 4.55 percent higher than last year's Ramadan period of IDR 189 trillion.

Doni explained that in the Lebaran 2025 period, BI will prepare Rp180.9 trillion in cash to meet the need for money exchange. This amount decreased by 1.6 percent compared to last year's Rp183.8 trillion. The decrease in the amount was carried out taking into account the expansion of non-cash use in the community.

"To reduce crowded (crowding), we no longer accept gross, in other words, people come directly (to change money) without (registing online) (not), but are required to enter our smart application, smart.bi.go.id, so later everything can be neat and the information can be clear there," said Doni.

Bank Indonesia (BI) will distribute cash or cash amounting to Rp180.9 trillion at the moment of Ramadan and Lebaran 2025. Kick off the distribution of the cash will start from March 3, 2025 to March 27, 2025.

"We will start distributing cash kick off on March 3, so March 3 to 27," said Doni.

Doni said cash exchanges would be made through three services. First, regular mobile services where BI visits places of worship such as mosques. The second service is money exchange at 4,000 points with banks.

"Third, we call it thematic service, so for example this office has a Ramadan bazaar, we can also come there," he said.

Despite reducing the number of circulations, Doni does not deny that the Eid tradition in Indonesia is synonymous with cash so that Bank Indonesia is ready to prepare the Semarak Rupiah Ramadhan and Berkah Idul Fitri (Serambi) program.

BI will carry out three programs, namely through regular mobile services to places of worship such as mosques, banking services in crowded places such as Monas, to through thematic services by visiting bazaar activities in offices.

"Later together with the banks it will be at 4,000 points, including with BI 1,200 points. So later we will also be on the toll road," said Doni.

"Of course this has taken into account based on economic growth and digital acceptance, meaning that we have considered the percentage in non-cash," said Doni again some time ago.

Doni revealed that the reason for the increase in the circulation of money on Eid al-Fitr later refers to the economic growth in Indonesia, which is still positive, growing in the range of 5 percent and increasingly massive use of digital finance.

"So, finally we consider raising about 4.65 percent," he said.

The new money exchange for Eid al-Fitr 2025 will usually become a separate trend because of the tradition of giving THR (Hari Raya Allowance) when gathering with family during Lebaran moments in Indonesia.
