KemenP2MI, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs And Ministry Of Social Affairs Return 46 Illegal Migrant Workers Working On Myanmar Online Gambling Sites

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Affairs managed to repatriate 46 illegal Indonesian migrant workers. They previously worked on Myanmar's online gambling site.

P2MI Protection Director General Rinardi said the 46 Illegal PMIs were repatriated by two flights and arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Thursday night.

He hopes that this case will be a lesson for the public so that they are not easily tempted by the lure of high salaries.

"Moreover, nowadays there is widespread seduction through social media, which seems to give promises to work easily without documents without complete requirements or even without competence," said Rinardi at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as released in Jakarta, Friday, February 21.

If without documents, the potential for becoming a victim of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) will be wide open.

They can go abroad and get a big salary. In fact, they later became the object of the target of trafficking in persons. So this is what we want to convey to the community," said Rinardi.

In line with Rinardi, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yudha Nugraha, appealed to the public not to be easily deceived by job vacancies that promise a large salary without special qualifications.

"Therefore, we strongly urge the public not to be easily lulled or deceived from job vacancies abroad, which promise high salaries but do not ask for special qualifications, not to go equipped with work visas, to leave without being provided with a work contract and finally having problems abroad," said Yudha.

The victims who were sent home, said Yudha, had previously worked in the online gambling sector. Yudha said that several victims had worked in the online gambling sector in the Philippines, Cambodia to Laos.

There are some of them who have worked previously in the online gambling sector in the Philippines, then moved to Laos and then finally to Myawaddy (Myanmar). There are also those who have worked in the online gambling sector as well in Cambodia, "said Yudha.

Yudha revealed that the victims would be sent back to their area of origin after conducting an in-depth investigation regarding the perpetrators' methods to trap the victims.

"They will later be taken to the Trauma Center Protection House at the Ministry of Social Affairs to investigate how the modes or methods are carried out so that they can be trapped up to Myawaddy (Myanmar)," said Yudha.
