Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir: Global South State Cooperation Must Be Strengthened To Ensure A Fair System
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Nasir, said that the cooperation between global countries must be strengthened to ensure a fair global system.
He said that when meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday.
A number of topics were discussed by the two on the occasion, including the BRICS in which Indonesia had just officially joined as a member.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia appreciated Brazil's support for Indonesia's full membership in the economic cooperation forum.
"As a new member at BRICS, Indonesia is committed to actively participating in all BRICS agendas and workstream," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata, citing a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday, February 20.
Regarding BRICS, Brazilian Foreign Minister Vieira expressed hope that the President of the Republic of Indonesia could attend the BRICS Summit in July in Rio de Janeiro as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia's role in the forum.
Deputy Foreign Minister Tata on the occasion expressed hope to Brazil to support the promulgation of ASEAN at this year's November G20 Summit in South Africa.
At the global level, the two discussed the latest dynamics such as multilateralism challenges and the urgency of world financial system reforms amid difficult global economic situations.
In addition, Indonesia and Brazil agreed on the importance of joint efforts to encourage global order reform to be more inclusive and reflect the current geopolitical balance.
"Indonesia believes that cooperation between Global South countries must be further strengthened to ensure a global system that is fairer and more representative," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata.

In the bilateral context, the two parties discussed cooperation in the field of food security and agreed to develop a more comprehensive roadmap for bilateral cooperation. Indonesia also hopes for Brazil's support to immediately start negotiations on the Indonesia-Mercosur Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
It is known that the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) which will be held on 20-21 February 2025 will discuss two main sessions, 20 years of G20 travel since it was formed.
