JAKARTA - The designer of a well-known accessory, Rinaldy Yunardi, displays his collection of jewelry inspired by the combination of Indonesian and Chinese culture with carving details that reflect the acculturation of the two traditions.
"This concept still wants to provide a feel of Chinese New Year and Cap Gomeh celebrations. Therefore, the Old Town of Jakarta was chosen as the location of the exhibition, which is synonymous with encim kebaya and its role culture. So, the concept is directed there," said Rinaldy Yunardi when met in Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA.
He revealed that the idea in his jewelry collection was a request from the Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana. The collection was exhibited at an event entitled Wisdom in the Old Town: A Lunar Celebration which took place in the House of Monument, Kota Tua area, Jakarta.
Rinaldy highlighted the combination of elements of Indonesian and Chinese culture in this collection. One example is a condensed stab decorated with ahong bird (phoenix), a symbol of luck in the trust of the Chinese people.
Of the around 50 accessories on display, all of them are made using metals beautified with colored crystals, such as silver, blue, red, and pink. Some of the accessories displayed include crowns, conde stabs, fans, to small box bags.
I made all of this from metal, although not precious metal, but also not imitation. Coupled with Swarovski crystals and semi precious stones to beautify the design," he explained.
In terms of targeted markets, Rinaldy targets brides from the Chinese ethnic group and Betawi people who have a tradition of blending Indonesian and Chinese culture.
Through this collection of accessories, Rinaldy wants to emphasize that traditional Indonesian culture can remain relevant to modern touch. The beauty of Indonesian culture, especially through traditional clothing, can be enjoyed by anyone without being limited by the times.
