Jenang Nusantara Festival, Unique Tradition At Solo City Birthday Celebration

JAKARTA - The Jenang Nusantara Festival on Monday was held in the Ngarsopuro area as part of the celebration of the 280th anniversary of Solo City in Central Java Province.

This festival is an annual event that the public has been waiting for, featuring various types of typical Nusantara larvae and various arts and cultural performances. Apart from being part of the city's anniversary celebration, this festival also aims to preserve traditional culinary delights that have become part of the cultural identity of the people of Solo.

Various types of jemang are presented at the festival, including earbones, black kentane, genang Bali, pearl porridge, and lemu porridge. Visitors can enjoy this dish for free while enjoying the festive atmosphere of celebration.

Residents packed the Ngarsopuro area to taste various kinds of jokes and witness the entertainment that was held during the festival.

"Earlier I had time to get pearl porridge. I wanted to find black glutinous porridge but it was running out," said Wulandari, a Solo resident who attends the festival every year, as quoted by ANTARA.

" Fertilizing is a simple food but many like it, many are looking for it. This is synonymous with Solo, simple but many are visiting," he added.

Widaryati and her group presented black kentang at this year's festival. They made snacks from five kilograms of black glutinous rice.

"We are happy to be involved in this event," said Widaryati, a resident of Penumping Village who regularly participates in the genang festival.

The Director of Artistic Festival Jenang Nusantara, Heru Mataya, said that around 10,000 servings of jenang were distributed to residents during the festival.

"Stan jenang is in the Ngarsopuro area and in Pamedan Pura Mangkunegaran," he said.

According to Heru, the Jenang Nusantara Festival in 2025 is the 14th edition held in Solo City.

"In addition to commemorating the anniversary of Solo, this festival is also a form of mangayubagyo (ikut be happy) Jumengan KGPAA Mangkunegara X which took place some time ago," he explained.
