Alibaba Highlights Future AI Trend: Not Just Pursuing The Smartest Model
JAKARTA - The presence of DeepSeek, a startup from China, which carries an open-source or open source model has attracted the attention and imagination of many people in the past few months.
In addition, DeepSek also shows that large-language models (LLM) training can be done at a lower cost than traditional approaches that require large investments.
Responding to these conditions, Joe Tsai as Co-Founder, Chairman of Alibaba Group, said that this fact sparked panic, where public attention is now more focused on who can develop the most intelligent frontier model.
He also mentioned that there are at least two main implications for this change:

Of these two implications, Tsai concluded, when comparing this trend with the education system, where only a handful of rich parents are able to educate their children to achieve the Nobel Prize, even though according to him what is more important is to create a productive and beneficial individual for the community.
"Why should we be obsessed with who can create the most intelligent AI model, while few people know or care who is the individual with the highest IQ in the world? In the end, investment will flow to companies that are able to innovate at a lower cost in training and implementing AI," he explained.
However, Tsai emphasized that Alibaba Group will be committed to investing in more efficient and applicative AI development, in order to create more inclusive innovations and benefit the business world and the wider community.
