The European Union Voices Support For Israel-Palestinian Conflict Solutions

JAKARTA - The head of EU foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, voiced his support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by stressing that Palestinians have the right to stay in the Gaza Strip.

"If you read the history of Israel and its establishment, you will see very clearly that its founders agree on the need to combine security with justice. This means that Palestinians have rights, and these rights must be respected," Kallas said at the Munich Security Conference.

They have the right to be there. Israelis are concerned about their security, but Palestinians are also entitled to own the country," he added.

This is the reason Kallas believes in the need to achieve balance and is also the reason the European Union supports the two-state solution.

Kallas announced that the European Union-Israel Association Council would hold a meeting on February 24 to discuss the situation in Gaza, followed by regional developments as a whole.

Unlike the previous meeting, this time, apart from the highest leadership of the European Union, representatives of all 27 EU member countries will attend.

"This time, member states really want to have very open and sincere discussions with Israel. You know, this is how friends and allies work. In this way, we can really be open and honest with each other, and we can also discuss very difficult topics," said Kallas.

During the conference, Kallas also responded to the speech of US Vice President JD Vance, who according to him felt confrontative to Europe.

"Hearing the speech, they tried to start an argument with us, and we didn't want to fight with our friends," Kallas said.

He argues that rather than internal disputes, allies should prioritize greater threats, particularly Russian aggression against Ukraine.
