Regarding The PTFI Smelter Fire Investigation, Director General Of MInerba: There Is No Deliberate Element
JAKARTA - Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) Tri Winarno revealed the results of the investigation into the cause of the fire belonging to PT Freeport Indonesia on October 14, 2024. Tri said that it was not intentional in the fire.
"There is no intentional element. If for example on purpose, his insurance is not disbursed. It's insured," he told the media crew at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Friday, February 14.
However, Tri said that his party had not issued a letter of recommendation for the export license of a copper concentrate which had previously been requested by PTFI.
"It hasn't (issued the permit) yet," added Tri briefly.
Met separately, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung said the decision to relax PTFI's copper concentrate exports must still be discussed in a limited meeting between related Ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

"So with the restrictions on the law that must be carried out, at least there is a coordination meeting and there is also a meeting to decide when it is allowed," explained Yuliot.
The former Deputy Minister of Investment also said that the government was evaluating that the suspension of exports would not have an impact on PTFI mining activities and its impact on state revenues.
"So the Ministry of the Economy has coordinated, assigning the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Trade to see how this condition is possible in order to provide an export process from a concentrate that has been prepared by PT Freeport Indonesia," said Yuliot.
