Afghan Man Perpetrators Of Stabbing Attack During German Political Campaign

JAKARTA - An Afghan man suspected of sympathizers of a militant group is being tried in Germany on charges of murder and attempted murder following a stabbing attack targeting a political rally in the western city of Mannheim.

The trial took place amid growing debates in Germany over asylum and security rules before the national election on February 23.

The right-right and right-wing groups have promised to take a crackdown on migrant crimes, following several violent attacks in recent months.

The defendant, identified by the prosecutor as Sulaiman A., was charged with stabbing and wounding six people, including a 29-year-old police officer who died of his injuries, in an attack on anti-Islamic demonstrations at the end of May 2024.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday, February 13, the defendant covered his face with a folder while attending a regional high court in Stuttgart, the capital of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, where Mannheim is located.

The suspect was detained before trial on June 18 after leaving intensive care due to the injuries he sustained in the attack.
