Write An Open Letter To The American Bishop, Pope Francis Condemns Trump's Deportation Policy Again
JAKARTA - Pope Francis sharply criticized the immigration crackdown by US President Donald Trump in an open letter sent to American Catholic bishops.
The Pope, who earlier this year called Trump's plans for millions of migrants a "catch", said the assumption that all undocumented immigrants were criminals was a mistake.
"I urge all Catholics not to give up on narratives that discriminate and cause unnecessary suffering to our migrant brothers and sisters," the Pope said.
Pope Francis is very critical of Trump's immigration policy. In 2016, the Pope said the president was "not Christian" in his view of immigration.
In his letter on Tuesday, the Pope called the crackdown on immigration a "big crisis" for the US.
"What is built on the basis of violence, and not on the basis of truth about equality of dignity for every human being, starts badly and will end badly," the Pope said.
