Apple Considers Stopping Partnerships With BOE Due To Screen Quality Problems

JAKARTA Apple is reportedly considering diverting iPhone OLED screen orders from Chinese supplier BOE to Samsung Display and LG Display due to continuing quality issues.

According to sources in Korea cited by OLED-info, BOE is experiencing difficulties in meeting Apple's quality standards for AMOLED LTPS panels used in iPhone 14, 15, and 16. Since early 2024, BOE has only been able to deliver about 7-8 million units of panels to Apple, well below the order's target of around 40 million units.

This quality problem is expected to take at least six weeks to fix. Meanwhile, the industry estimates that Samsung Display will most likely receive most of the orders being diverted, as LG Display is currently more focused on the production of AMOLED LTPO panels for the iPhone "Pro" model.

BOE itself has faced several obstacles in OLED screen production for the iPhone. In 2023, the company experienced a problem of leakage of light around Dynamic Island on the iPhone 15 screen, which caused Apple to significantly reduce their number of orders.
